The Truth About Estrogen Therapy and Breast Cancer Risk

Few topics evoke more fear and confusion than the role estrogen plays in the development of breast cancer.

It’s October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and pink ribbon season is here.  And while I think increasing awareness is important, I personally believe, as a health care provider and advocate for women’s health, that it’s more important to get the truths about topics that evoke strong emotion out into the world.

Hormone replacement therapy and breast cancer risk is one of those hot-button subjects.

This week’s video is about estrogen and its relationship to breast cancer risk, where the fear of HRT came from and what you need to know if you decide that hormone replacement is right for you. The decision to use HRT is very personal and knowledge is power!

Dr Anna – could you please provide a link or reference to the new recommendations you refer to in your video?

Also do you have information about which of the bioidentical estrogens are preferable re breast cancer risk or safer in general? Are they applicable in different situations and how does one decide which is the right one?

Finally – is there a product which combines bioidentical estrogen with natural progesterone or do we have to find these separately. I live in the UK so the compounding pharmacies I read about don’t exist here.

    Thank you
